peel away adBy now, I’m sure most of you have noticed the nifty little Peel Away Ad feature that has been implemented on various sites around the blogosphere such as on JohnChow.com.  This ad unit also goes by the name PageEar, PagePeel, Magic Corner and PeelAd.  Basically, the ad is located in the upper right-hand corner, and the full ad is revealed when a user hovers over it to “peel away” the page.  Not only is the ad very cool looking, but its also non-intrusive and very effective in increasing campaign CTRs as well.  Within an hour of implementing it, John says that five new members signed up for the product that he was promoting.

Normally, the plugin is priced at $127, but you can get it through John’s affiliate code for only $37 which is a huge discount.  Today, you won’t even have to spend a single penny because I’m going to tell you how you can download this feature for FREE from WebPicasson.de.  The script is pretty robust and will support Wordpress, Joomla and Typo3 content management systems.  PageEar has been tested and runs on just about every browser including IE, FireFox, Opera and Safari.

Installation

  • upload the entire ”pageear” directory to  your wp-content/plugins folder
  • login to your Wordpress control panel and activate PageEar under plugins
  • you will now see a ”pageear-config” link under plugins where you can edit the configuration
  • make your desired changes and click save

You will need to create two creatives, one thumbnail at 100×100 pixels as a teaser to pique the visitor’s interest, and another at 500×500 pixels for your full banner.  The larger 500×500 image will be revealed to display your full ad when a visitor hovers over the 100×100 thumbnail.
